The Wisdom-Filled Life of Worship

THE WISDOM-FILLED LIFE OF WORSHIP
After Paul encouraged the church at ancient Ephesus to walk in the light of their new lives available through the work of Jesus, he went on to encourage them to “be imitators of God, as beloved children.” Ephesians 5:1.  After giving a list of what God-imitators don’t do (unmarried sex, dirty mindedness, crude joking, etc.), Paul went on to point out the wisdom-filled life of worship. The points he made then are still applicable to Christians today.

BEING CHRIST-LIKE
Ephesians 5 goes on to say that God worshippers are full of wisdom. Christians know better than to become entangled with those who are flagrantly immoral, they stay away from the darkness of this world, and they are not foolish but instead walk in the will of Jesus as is revealed in the Bible. Jesus followers wisely use their time because they know the culture around us is evil and bent toward sin and destruction. They’re not busy living it up, getting buzzed, or partying hard. Jesus followers are busy walking, talking, acting, thinking, and being Christ-like.

FILLING, SINGING, & THANKING
Being Christian is hard; we fall down. But we get back up! One distinctive way to living a life of worship is how Christians are empowered and encouraged. Holy Scripture reveals empowerment and encouragement come because Christians are “filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord.” Ephesians 5:18-19. Christians are also thankful; “always and for everything.”

YOU SHOULD TRY IT
Do you seek and worship God before you start your day (even if only for a few minutes); or do you live in community with other believers? Do you ask to be filled with the Spirit? Do you have a song in your heart; maybe a something you picked up from Sunday’s worship service at Grace? Is everyday filled with a grateful heart for the many little things you are privileged to enjoy; and maybe even thankfulness for the Grace to endure the struggles you also encounter?

DESIRE GOD
Read Ephesians, Chapters 4-5. You’ll be encouraged to live a life of worship. Desire God and you’ll be filled with God.
